The diver entered the 1st deck forward through a hole previously cut into the shell plating. After having inspected several cabins he reached the centre longitudinal alleyway, noted towards forward a closed watertight door (the door was open when the survivors were running upstairs and closed most probably subsequently by gravity after the hydraulic pressure had gone). The quality of the footage is extremely poor and it is for this reason that no images are shown from the relevant areas.
Nevertheless the diver found the door to the spiral stairway leading down to the swimming pool/sauna compartments, which was open and he reported: “There is just sand and a lot of debris” and was thus unable to enter this stairway. The picture below shows the spiral stairs in normal condition just free in the middle of the swimming pool area.
