The railing seen from outside and inside

As this was evidently not the case and taken into account the damages to the ramp, the railings could never have left the tunnel of the car deck.

<<< On this picture we can see one of the remains of the railing stanchions where it was welded to the ramp. This is the port side of the ramp where the short part of railing can be seen. It has a clear cut and the removal of the railing must have been done by use of some cutting device. If ripped off, the metal would have been squeezed or the ‘cut’ would not have been as clean as it is.
note   Note: The above picture is from video B40c made by a diver in December 1994. This video also shows parts of the rails lying at the deep starboard side next to the ramp. (See also pages 882 ff. of our Report). Unfortunately it is not possible to clearly determine from the ROV videos made on 02.10.94 and 09/10.10.94 whether the bow ramp rails were then still in place.
